Scarves are our world, our tradition and our heritage. Shawls play a not less important role in the house of FRAAS. For the last 130 years scarves and shawls have been our world which began with the manufacture of miner's neckerchiefs, kerchiefs and plaids.
Originally "shawl" was the designation for a piece of material which was fulled and kneaded in slightly alkaline or acidic warm baths until the surface was felted to the point that the original woven binding was no longer discernable. These felted materials were known as "shawls" well into the 19th century.
Nowadays a shawl is more often a usually square piece of light woven material. Trend-setting cashmere – modalic fibre blends, casual wool or sporty linen in a wide variety of designs make FRAAS shawls the ideal accessories.
The classic among the shawls is the silk shawl made of pure silk twill in the size 90 x 90 cm. Besides twill other materials are also used for silk shawls such as crêpe satin, chiffon, crêpe de chine, satin, habotai, pongée, jacquard, bourée, georgette or wild silk to create the perfect accessory.
Currently, printed shawls in all shapes and colours are very much in fashion. Through a special process, hand-painted or graffiti-sprayed pictures are scanned and directly printed onto the shawl by an injection method.. A real must-have this season are oversized fringed shawls with rivets or metallic appliqué that can be casually tied into a triangle.
Last but not least…..
Silk scarves appearing in portrait or still life paintings are metaphors for the transience of physical beauty. That reason enough to supply yourself every season with new shawl highlights.
