For the men, a necktie knot is an especially nice way to tie a shawl or a lightweight scarf. Lay the scarf around the neck, then loop the left-hand end on the chest around the right-hand end and then pull it again over the top to create a knot similar to a necktie.

A simple but also elegant variation is the double knot which is worn casually either on the left or right-hand side of the neck.
